about us 100 year events radio station history photo album contact us quick links dadars sister site historic radio events 100 years events churches on the air international museums railways on the air ecclesbourne railway beefstock station sos station gb100d full log gb100d countries list club newsletter please see our sister site http://www.dadars.org.uk/ for newsletters members articles build a dummy load kw 160 transmitter during 2011, derby wireless club celebrated it's centenary rsgb president dave wilson m0obw presented our chairman dave goodwill g1vab with a silver salver. we celebrated the occasion with a club meal at the littleover lodge on 11th october 2011 a good time was had by all. the club was created during october 1911. we are now looking forward to the next 100 years! we wonder if amateur radio will still exist after that time and question what form will it will take? we operated gb1ood from the silk mill industrial museum during the first three months of 2011. unfortunately, the museum closed in march 2011 due to cost savings. the museum housed a collection of jet and piston aero engines making it an interesting place to visit. the silk mill itself is recognised as the oldest factory in the world. the museum staff and members of the club created an amateur radio exhibition for public display. large numbers of people passed by our display. many showed considerable interest and asked questions. members of the club posing in front of a rolls-royce rb211 jet engine at the silk mill museum. clive 2e1hvz, martin g3szj, dave g7gji, jenny g4eym and dave g1vab. we put on an exhibition during august for two weeks showing the development of the club from 1911 to 2011. the photos of many old friends brings back fond memories. during the exhibition, we also operated gb1ood intensly over the period using all bands 80m to 70cm. despite ropey band conditions, good fun was had by all who participated. we operated gb1ood from the beefstock festival in derby during august 2011. pop music and radio can mix! we put on an exhibition at the newark hamfest in 2011 as part of our centenary celebration. jenny g4eym, dave g1vab and chris g4ake. we displayed a 1913 spark transmitter and showed a video of it being used (in a screened environment). jenny g4eym and david g8axz on duty. the exhibition created a lot of interest and comment. many old friends and past members showed up to say hello. derby wireless club was formed in 1911 making 2011 our centenary year. the club has existed continuously over 100 years without a break even during the war. as such, we think we are one of the oldest if not the oldest local club in the world. to celebrate this amazing achievement, we planned a number of amateur radio events and used the call sign gb1ood (golf bravo one oscar oscar delta) for the whole year. please click on "100 years events" to see our programme of events. derby wireless club is incorporated into the derby & district amateur radio society (dadars). we meet at 7.30 pm on tuesday evenings at the united reform church on carlton road in a comfortable room giving us space to present talks, run junk sales and perform all the other club activities. please feel free to come along and enjoy a complementary cup of tea - you will be made very welcome indeed. 73's jenny g4eym (vice chairman) club activities 2018 august 21st. video show - another vintage dvd 28th. no meeting september 4th. junk sale 11th. no meeting 18th. shades of the wireless set 38 25th. night on the air october 2nd. junk sale 9th. committee meeting 16th.
